  • Collectiones (Colections) of MONUMENTA HISTORICA CARMELI TERESIANI (MHCT)

The members of the IHT Management Council  were appointed by the General Definitory on April 4 1973, with the task of basing the history of the last four centuries of the Teresian Carmel on authentic documents. To accomplish that, they started the so called Monumenta Historica Carmeli Teresiani  (MHCT) – ‘Historical Monuments of the Teresian Carmel’ - , with three documentary series with subdivisions that collect the sources as well as researches that has been published.

    1. Fontes (Sources)

This series is a critical edition, which gives the entire text of the documents considered to be the historical sources of Carmelite life, which has been lived in different environments and expressed in different ways. In first place are the documents that have stamped the life of the Teresian Carmel in its entirety, such as the directions of the Apostolic See, the general norms of our own government, both verbal and written; for example, Superiors, Chapters and General Definitors. In second place are the documents that have marked the life of the Teresian Carmel in its actual incarnation; in provinces, priories and personalities of special importance.

    2. Subsidia (Commentaries)

This series guives the sources, in the form of a ‘regesta’ or compendium, whose literary structure and character are focused mainly  on their basic historical elements.

    2.1  Subsidia Selecta (Selected commentaries)

This series offers Catalogues of the Superior Generals of the Teresian Carmel and religious from different provinces. This deals with historical Catalogues i.e., that, in a few paragraphs and in chronological order, present facts about the lives and responsibilities of the said Generals and religious, as well as the essential sources in order to know and study the same.

    3. Studia (Studies and research)

One of the aims of the Institute, apart from the publication of the sources, is to promote research and specialized monographic studies  on the different themes which are relevant and important in our Teresian Carmelite history.
